Adapt & Overcome, previously named Hockley Helping Hands, is an organization that sponsors many different activities which includes helping many MISD Special Education students.
A & O sponsors Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter parties for all MISD special need students and their families.
A cook-off was organized at the Waller County Fairgrounds where A & O judged the entries which included Ribs, Chicken, Brisket, and a Jackpot Dessert were the major categories for contestants. This event was sanctioned by the Gulf Coast BBQ Cookers Association.
Trophies and prizes were some of the awards given out when judging was completed, along with an award for the overall champion and reserve champion in each category.
A & O allowed Special Needs students who were on hand to distribute prizes to those who participated and placed with their entries.
As a show of generosity, most winners donated their prize money back to Adapt & Overcome to help fund future events for these students and others in need. There were also raffle tickets sold for a cooler give away to help create more donations for future events.
