The Starting Line

This year cross country zooms off to a great start, and Cross County Coach McGuire agrees. This is his second year
to coach cross country at Magnolia West and he is determined to place first in district and to take his team to state.
“The kids know me, they know what is expected, there are a lot more kids dedicated and focused.”
The first meet was held at Spring Creek Park where the runners ran relays. Although it was held in Tomball, our high
school hosted the meet.
The second meet was held at the Sam Houston High School. Our team this year ran stronger and faster than they did at
the end of the season last year. “I knew they were getting stronger and in shape. We did better in the past meet than I
thought we would,” McGuire said.
Coach McGuire states the meets to come will be tougher, but he believes that the team of cross country runners are
going to do well. We are racing schools from both 5A and 6A districts.
” I love coaching these groups of guys,” McGuire said, “They have a young ego and their excitement keeps me wanting to
come back and coaching everyday.”
