Six years running, government teacher Mr. James Massey is currently conducting a school wide food drive to help those families in our community who find themselves without financial means to have the needed meals over the holiday break.
The food drive for this year started December 10th and will run thru the 17th, and students are asked to bring non perishable items to your social studies classes for those families in need.
An average American eats almost a ton per year, and to be without this holiday would be tragic for most families in need.
Mr. Massey began working with the food drive at Sam Houston State University in 2006. The food drive he currently holds began at Magnolia West in 2009.
“I don’t want parents deciding whether to buy their kids presents or food to eat,” Mr. Massey said.
Some food items to consider are: non perishable; Canned proteins Salmon,Tuna,Peanut Butter,Chicken; grains such as Pasta, Rice, Macaroni and Cheese; Canned fruits and their juices, 100% juice; cereal- Cheerios, Grape-Nuts, Corn Flakes, and Raisin Bran ; condiments- Soy, Ketchup, Salad Dressings; low sodium- no salt added food, vegetables, soups, Turkey Rice, and Chicken Noodle Soup.
